Affiliate Disclosure
Clear, plain-English disclosure of how this site earns money, what that means for the recommendations you read, and what it doesn't.
Short version: Mauritius Resort Finder earns commissions through affiliate links to Expedia. When you click "Check availability →" and complete a booking, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions do not influence our rankings, scores, or editorial content. Hotels cannot pay for a higher ranking.
What Is an Affiliate Link?
An affiliate link is a tracked URL that tells the booking platform (in our case, Expedia) that you arrived via our site. If you complete a booking within the tracking window, Expedia pays us a commission — typically around 5% of the booking value. You pay the same price you would have paid by going to Expedia directly. The commission comes from Expedia's margin, not from you.
Our Affiliate Relationship
We participate in the Expedia Creator Program. Our affiliate links follow the format
https://expedia.com/affiliate/XXXXXXX
and all carry rel="noopener sponsored"
attributes in the HTML, in compliance with Google's link policies and FTC guidelines.
We have affiliate links for 12 of the 18 hotels in our database. The remaining 6 hotels appear in all rankings and pages at their correct score position, with a "Link coming soon" notice where a booking link would otherwise appear. The absence of an affiliate link has no effect on a hotel's ranking.
How Commissions Don't Affect Rankings
Ranking positions are determined entirely by the scoring methodology described on our methodology page. Scores are calculated from guest review data, amenity inventories, location characteristics, and value analysis.
Specifically:
- No hotel has paid to appear on this site.
- No hotel has paid to appear higher in any ranking.
- No hotel has paid for a category placement (e.g., "Best for Honeymooners").
- Hotels with affiliate links are not shown preferentially over hotels without them.
- If a hotel's score drops, its ranking drops — regardless of whether it generates commission.
What We Won't Do
We do not accept sponsored content. We do not accept hotel PR trips. We do not inflate scores in exchange for higher commission tiers. If Expedia adjusts commission rates, that does not adjust scores. The commercial arrangement with Expedia is limited to: you click, you book, we earn a percentage. That's the entire relationship.
FTC Compliance
In accordance with the United States Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), we disclose our material commercial relationships. The affiliate relationship with Expedia constitutes a material connection under FTC guidance. This disclosure page, combined with the per-link disclosure notice ("Affiliate link · Commission earned at no cost to you") placed adjacent to every affiliate CTA on this site, satisfies that requirement.
If you are located in the European Union, the affiliate links on this site are disclosed in accordance with the EU's requirements under the Consumer Rights Directive and national implementations of Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices.
Tracking and Privacy
When you click an Expedia affiliate link, Expedia may place a tracking cookie in your browser to attribute any subsequent booking to our referral. This is Expedia's tracking system, not ours. We do not receive any personal data about you as a result of affiliate clicks or completed bookings — we receive only an anonymised commission notification.
