16 regions, one island
Each corner of Mauritius has a distinct character. Find out which region suits your travel style.
The island’s social hub. World-class watersports, boutique dining, and Mauritius’s most iconic beach strip. Home to the Royal Palm.
East-coast exclusivity. The Four Seasons’ lagoon-villa estate sits here: private, calm, with championship golf and turquoise shallows.
Miles of white sand backed by a shallow lagoon. One&Only, LUX* Belle Mare, and Constance Belle Mare Plage call this beach home. Best for couples chasing seclusion.
Remote east-coast headland where Constance Prince Maurice occupies a private peninsula surrounded by mangrove and reef.
Northern tip with views of Coin de Mire island. Adults-only retreats dominate here, quieter, less commercial, genuinely special.
Gateway to Île aux Cerfs. Bubble Lodge’s unique eco-treehouse experience offers one of the most distinctive and adventurous stays on the island.
Marine park lagoon on the southern coast. Protected reef means exceptional snorkelling in some of the clearest water in Mauritius.
Unhurried fishing village turned boutique destination. LUX* Grand Gaube and Mythic Suites offer character without the crowds of the north.
Historic northwest bay sheltered by a natural headland. The Westin, Ravenala Attitude, and Jacaranda Villas share this calm, protected coastline away from the crowds.
Remote south-coast retreat centred on Ayurvedic wellness and pristine beach. Shanti Maurice delivers an intimate spa-first experience well away from the resort strip.
West-coast beach town with a long, sheltered lagoon and spectacular sunset views. Home to the Hilton Mauritius and Sands Suites Resort & Spa.
Quiet southeastern corner anchored by Anahita Golf & Spa Resort, with its championship golf course, beachfront villas, and one of the island’s finest spas.
Low-key northwest coastline with calm water and easy access to nature reserves. Le Méridien’s long, quiet beach suits those seeking pace over prestige.
South-coast estate destination flanked by sugarcane and the Bel Ombre Nature Reserve. Heritage Awali’s golf and spa complex anchors this tranquil, unhurried stretch.
Understated east-coast village with a community-focused boutique hotel. SALT Of Palmar reimagines Mauritius hospitality through a distinctly local, independent lens.
The capital. Ideal for business travel or as an arrival base. Less beach focus, more culture, markets, and direct airport access.
How we score hotels
Every score is reproducible. Here is exactly what goes into it.
The four pillars
Each hotel is scored across four criteria, each weighted independently. No pillar is hidden. Final composite score is the mean of all four, rounded to one decimal place.
Location score
Beach quality, reef access, proximity to attractions, transfer distance from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, and surrounding environment.
Amenity score
Spa facilities, pool size and quality, dining options and cuisine standard, watersports availability, kids club, butler service, and fitness facilities.
Brand credibility
Chain reputation, consistency across properties, staff training investment, and independent accreditation (Forbes Travel Guide, Leading Hotels of the World, etc.).
Value score
What you actually get relative to the nightly rate. A 9.2 hotel charging four times the rate of an 8.4 hotel will score lower on value, and we show you that trade-off explicitly.
What we don’t do
Built to cut through the noise
Mauritius hotel search is broken. Every “Best Hotels in Mauritius” article you find was written by someone who’s never been, or paid for by the hotels themselves. Booking platforms sort by commission rate. Review sites are gamed by incentivised guests.
We built Mauritius Resort Finder to answer one honest question: if you’re spending serious money on a Mauritius holiday, which resort will actually deliver?
Our scoring pulls from 21,000+ verified guest reviews across 36 properties, combined with independently assessed criteria for location, amenities, brand quality, and value. Every score is visible, every pillar is broken out, and every methodology decision is documented above.
When you book through a link on this site, we earn an affiliate commission from Expedia. That’s how this is funded. It doesn’t change the scores.
Stayed at Four Seasons Anahita for our honeymoon. Absolutely everything they say about it is true. The lagoon villas feel completely private, the staff remember your name from day one. Not cheap, but if you can stretch to it, worth every cent.
Paradise Cove at Cap Malheureux is genuinely one of the best adults-only properties I’ve ever stayed at. Small enough that it feels personal, big enough to have real facilities. The beach is quieter than Grand Baie, which is the whole point.
Royal Palm is the benchmark for Mauritius luxury. Butler service is actually attentive rather than performative, the beach is the best in Grand Baie, and the restaurants hold up without leaving the property.
